Cambria Suites is a good option if you want to be close to downtown and it is right on the Greenway with easy access to Mill Mountain Trails.

A little more upscale but The Hotel Roanoke is a cool historic hotel & they are bike friendly.

Camping and cabins at Douthat State Park

The Pines Campground, Newcastle, VA

Wilderness Adventures at Eagle Landing is super convenient to the Price/Patterson Trail System

Unless otherwise marked, camping is allowed in the Jefferson and George Washington National Forests. Both Wildlife Road for North Mountain and Patterson Creek Road for Price/Patterson have nice primitive camp sites. No potable water or restrooms, remember to Pack It Out if you pack it in.
